One question I hear a lot is, “How do I build a personal brand?” We all have a personal brand of some type. A stellar personal brand will demonstrate who you are and what you offer.

With how much we interact on social media, it’s pretty easy to build a brand (good or bad). By making just a few posts to your favorite social media platform, you are telling the world who you are.

If we’ve never met before, I’m Heather Austin from ProfessorAustin.com and The Career Club on Facebook, and here, I share simple solutions to help you build a business or launch a career you love.

Today, I’m sharing a quick hack that will help you develop a stronger personal brand. This hack is a simple one.

Customize Your LinkedIn Profile URL

LinkedIn is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms. It’s been reported that 2 new users join LinkedIn every second. There are now more than 500 million people using LinkedIn. This is what makes it the perfect place to build a strong brand.

When you first create a LinkedIn account, you are assigned a public profile URL. This URL is normally a combination of numbers and letters. It’s not very attractive and might look something like this: www.linkedin.com/in/firstname-lastname-217497154.

With how popular it is to display your LinkedIn URL on your business card or on your resume, you definitely need a professional looking URL, something more like this: www.linkedin.com/in/Heather-Austin/.

What Customizing Your LinkedIn Profile URL Can Do:

  1. It makes it easier for people to find you online.
  2. It looks more professional.
  3. It enhances your personal brand.

You have any where from 5 to 30 characters and numbers to use to customize your LinkedIn public profile URL. You’ll want to use some variation of your name or your personal brand name. If your first and last name aren’t available, try using your middle name or your initials.

Bonus Tip

Here’s a bonus tip when it comes to sharing your LinkedIn public profile URL with others: title case your name. For example, www.linkedin.com/in/Heather-Austin/ is easier to read than: www.linkedin.com/in/heather-austin/
